PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Pennsylvania State University designed a multi-purpose facility which included an arena, auxiliary gymnasium, theater, cafeteria with kitchen, a fitness center, racquetball courts, and offices serving the campus and the local community.
The facility includes a new 55,000 square-foot, multi-purpose facility with an arena, auxiliary gymnasium, theater, cafeteria with kitchen, a fitness center, and offices serving the campus and the local community. The structure consists of reinforced masonry bearing walls on shallow foundations with steel roof framing. Several areas of the building have intermediate framed mezzanine levels for mechanical rooms and arena seating. An extensive amount of roof and mezzanine framing is architecturally exposed. A cantilevered canopy accents the main entrance with exposed steel brackets supporting translucent roof panels. Long-span joists were utilized at basketball area, gymnasium and theater.
