PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

3-story parking structure

ADDITIONAL PROJECT FACTS:

  • Existing garage demolished but existing walls preserved and rehabilitated
  • Structure is post-tensioned with one-way slabs on post-tensioned beams
  • Fourth story features 23,500 sq. ft. of storage space

Barber & Hoffman was selected as the prime consultant for the design and construction of the new parking garage and storage facility. A full-time registered structural engineer was on site throughout the duration of the construction phase. Our scope of work included conducting a condition survey of the existing parking structure and performing a feasibility analysis to determine cost-effectiveness of rehabilitating the existing structure vs building a new parking garage and storage facility. Our study determined that building a new facility was more cost-efficient than rehabilitating the existing structure. The existing garage was demolished, except the basement walls, which were preserved and rehabilitated. The new three-story parking structure is post-tensioned with one-way slabs on post-tensioned beams. The top fourth story features 23,500 sq. ft. of storage space with 12’-0” cantilevered perimeter construction. The roof structure over the post-tensioned storage floor consisted of structural steel beams and columns framing with metal roof decking.
