This new facility is an addition to the existing science building. The new building is a fourstory,
43,000-square-foot structure that will be used for laboratories connected to the
existing building with a link.
A one-way concrete joist frame was selected because it will be exposed and floor
elevations shall match the existing building. The concrete construction also provides a
stiff structure to limit vibration for sensitive equipment. An auger-cast pile foundation
system was selected because of the varying soil conditions throughout the footprint of
the building.
