Summit Elementary School is constructed with exterior, load bearing masonry walls and interior structural steel framing. The upper level of the two-story classroom area is supported by steel joist construction between steel beams and girders. The gable roof profile over the classrooms is achieved with light gauge steel trusses. The hip roof construction over the cafeteria and gymnasium is framed with architecturally exposed structural steel beams, and also makes use of two clear span structural steel trusses that are assembled from W- and WT- shaped members.
