The Terminal Tower
Facade Restoration

Cleveland, Ohio
Forest City Tenant Coordination/Construction
$1,800,000. through 1999
Begun in 1997 - Repairs are ongoing

The Terminal Tower is the crown jewel of the Cleveland skyline.  It is part of a multi-use complex incorporating transportation, office, retail, and hotel functions.  Constructed between 1925 and 1930, the structure rises 708 feet above Public Square, Cleveland's premier outdoor public space.  Designed by Graham, Probst and White of Chicago, the Terminal Tower is a classically derived early high-rise office building.  The tower is a steel-framed structure clad in facades of brick, limestone, and terra-cotta masonry.

Barber & Hoffman, Inc. provides engineering services in an ongoing project begun in 1997 to repair and rehabilitate the exterior facade of the Terminal Tower.

The Terminal Tower Facade Restoration Program is being meticulously documented through field reports, sketches, photographs, and CAD drawings of the repairs.

This documentation will serve as a historical record of the work performed and will facilitate and enhance the building's exterior facade maintenance program.

Barber & Hoffman is working in conjunction with local contractors to implement stone and terra-cotta repairs as well as other related modifications.

Repair work and observations are being conducted from a variety of platforms, including pipe scaffolding, platform scaffolding, swing-stage scaffolding, and Boson's chairs.
