Main Post Office
Facade Replacement
Cleveland, Ohio
U.S. Postal Service
$3,000,000
1976

The Main Post Office Building in Cleveland, Ohio, a charming sandstone-faced, 6-story, steel-framed building, was built between the period of 1932-34.  In January 1976, 16 exterior stone elements fell down, giving rise to an emergency repair and restoration program.

Barber & Hoffman was retained to first do the temporary repairs and then to do a complete inspection and report and, finally, prepare the repair construction documents.

Because of the poor quality of stone and its corroded steel support system, complete replacement of the stone facade was considered.
