The eight-story, 119,000-square-foot building had
cracks throughout its brick exterior.
The problem was pervasive and, compounded by a corrosive chloride
content in the mortar, left no reasonable solution other than our
recommendation for total replacement.
As the owner was not pleased with the original appearance of the
building, we chose to de-emphasize the horizontal aspects of the building
facade and emphasized the vertical in the reconstruction.
The horizontal bands of masonry were replaced with intermittent
vertical bands of flush masonry and spandrel glass that accentuated the
vertical aspects of the building. The owner appreciated the change.
